Murder for Love!

The murder is 7 years old, but the verdict is fresh. It has taken 7 years for the judiciary of the first instance to convict and sentence for life the fiancee Shubha,  her paramour Arun Verma and their 2 accomplices. This delay is despite the trial being held in the FAST TRACK Courts! We Indians, love epics, in fact, we do not want to conclude matters. If it is prolonged there is a false notion that there has been “THOROUGHNESS” to the proceedings.

Getting back to our story, Shubha was in love with a guy called Arun Verma (TOI, Bangalore dt. 15th July, 2010 puts him to be from the state of Bihar, whereas the other Newspapers have been cagey about mentioning the statehood of the perpetrator of the crime!) but in the meanwhile, Shubha’s father gets her engaged, against her wishes, to her neighbour and friend for 15 years by name Girish. The engagement ceremony was over in 2003 and Shubha  “forces” Girish to take her out for dinner and on the way back after dinner, they stop to see the planes take-off and land near the old Bangalore airport. While waiting on the side of the road, a guy walks up and hits Girish with a “shock absorber” and he is taken to the hospital by the alarmed Shubha, where he is declared dead.

Investigations reveal that Shubha was in “deep” love with Arun Verma and he had engaged the services of a history-sheeter through his cousin and the deed was done.

Well let me take you thru the compulsions of the woman Shubha.

She probably wanted to please her father by accepting  the marriage with Girish.

She couldn’t say NO to Girish or her father.

She did not want to  have an “illicit relationship” with Arun after marriage ( what noble intentions!).

Shubha did not want to “elope” with Arun, as that would tarnish the image of her family.

Arun did not want to share Shubha with Girish and therefore wanted Shubha to demonstrate her love for Arun by giving out the details of Girish’s whereabouts, so that he could get the deed done and keep Shubha in the dark.

Shubha wanted to be LOYAL to to ONLY ONE man and that privilege she wanted to bestow on Arun and not on Girish.

Shubha probably thought that when she was not directly involved in the ACT of murder, she would not have to bear the “sin” of the act, though as per the Penal Code she would be criminally responsible.

Shubha could have probably hoped that Arun Verma would fail and go to jail for attempt on the life of Girish, and thereby Shubha would have a happy wedded life with Girish, with no interference!

Shubha probably wanted to put to test the devotion of Arun and start their wedded life on the foundation of the secret of a MURDER MOST FOUL!

The mind is capable of taking its own convolutions before one’s TIME crystallizes the deed to ascribe ownership to the deed!

Shubha is very good looking. One wonders how a woman of such demeanour and carriage could do a deed so foul. I used to muse that Lady Macbeth was a woman who could never be paralleled, leave alone excelled in MURDER. But Shubha comes close to excelling  Lady Macbeth. Shubha knew Girish for 15 years as a neighbour and friend, yet for a few years of  co-habiting with a paramour, she forced her fiance to go for dinner, let out their location, stopped him to make Girish an easy target, set up a false story to set the police on a false trail, continued her life without any compunction after the murder, maintained stony silence as if murdering for LOVE/LUST was a good justification for murder!!

Wah! Wah! Wah! A murder most foul, by a fair lady!!

  1. for some video plz check this out!!

  2. After watching youtube clipping, by hindsight i felt i should have titled the blog as LAMB TAKEN TO SLAUGHTER BY EWE

  3. Dear Sir ,

I do not know of this story in Bangalore but it is easy to opine on peoples impropriety or the cold blooded murder plotted and committed out of passion. The girls innocent face defies this gruesome act .

As they say ” many spotted minds bathe in holy streams and lead a double life “.

They tried to do the same for seven long years.

But having said that we are pronouncing this judgement when we are in a state of equanimity. But often in our daily lives we face similar situations where we twist and bend the rules to our convenience and comfort.

This does not aquit the two some of the guilt but LOVE AND PASSION are such states of mind when an individual is most likely to lose all sense of balance and wisdom. They are literally possessed during that period and would brook no opposition.

    Sridhar

    • Conscience and morals are beyond any love or passion.
That is what makes us either sane or insane…

I do understand for small things or little lies but murder?? I do not think anything can justify that!! Then the upbringing is really at question!

The media and public should be ashamed of abusing a young woman like this.
To me this case is nothing compared to the 1000s of women who are being abused and murdered everyday. Why aren’t people taking up cases and blogging about women who are being killed everyday. I guess it is the male ago at play. It is OK for a woman to be abused or killed by a man. But if it involves a woman, everyone wants to take a dig at it. For a moment, folks don’t themselves in an another person’s shoes. I have a 18-year old daughter and for some reason if my daughter ended up where Shubha is, I wouldn’t want this happening to her.

Moreover the facts stated by Shubha’s lawyer in her appeal shows that there is more to this case. They have not found a single SMS that the police or prosecution claims available in her phone when the phone was in the custody of the police. How can it disappear. Why has the judge not considered it ?

Why was the main witness to the case, the person who took Girish to the hospital not produced in the court ? How can the prosecution do this ?

I wish the truth comes out.

Everyone has the right to fight for justice. I feel the public is being biased with the way the media is reporting. So much for a free country. Hypocrites.

    • Deepa Mehata is correct. You can reach me to discuss this further.

      • VRUSHAB thanks- i like yr opinion without any reasons! Well so far as the discussions are concerned u could always voice yr opinion in this forum.

  5. Hi Deepa Mehta, firstly thanks for your comments. This is not a forum for weighing the gender injustices inflicted by the society at large and taking up only the injustices suffered by women. Any form of injustice is condemnable, but this blog is just a space for highlighting the current issues which are the burning topics let loose in the public domain by the media.
You are getting into the trial details and there is the High Court for appeal, so if Shubha is aggrieved, she could take it on appeal there. Hope TRUTH prevails.
I am sorry for being unable to share “ashamed of abusing a young woman like this.” it is not the YOUTH of a WOMAN which is being “ABUSED”, but the “DEED of the woman” that is being talked about. In the Greek mythology, Agamemnon’s wife Clytemnestra conspired with her lover Aegisthus to murder her husband, and this deed is comparable with that myth. Atleast Agamemnon’s behaviour could have warranted that, but in this case Shubha’s fiance did not deserve this plight. Girish’s murder was akin to Agamemnon being caught unawares in a net by his trusted wife and stabbed to death. Where is the question on “extenuating” circumstances to this case?

    • I completely agree! Being a woman, I would agree that women being murdered, tortured, raped….should be discussed too and condemned!! But that does NOT make this case any less shocking especially when she could have simply told her parents or left her home!

I do not understand how Deepa says that had her daughter done it…………OMG…………even to think that one’s daughter could do it!!!!!!!!!

I would really have a big job to educate my daughter (whenever in the future) with the same morals that I was given, by my family, from what I read and saw to learn to respect even a dog’s life…………..and definitely that of a human who has done no harm to you and a friend of 15 years!!!

      Highly disgraceful and condemn-able

I landed up here eventually after last night’s Crime Patrol story on real life Nitesh and Saumya who had got ideas from this case.

Any by the way dear author: Liked your style of writing……Stay connected.
